Native American Flute Lessons offered for ages 6 -100.

                    



The Native American Flute is a wonderful instrument to learn at any age as it is relatively easy to play and does not require reading written music. 

I highly recommend lessons when beginning (kids or adults) because it is much easier to learn correct technique in the beginning instead of breaking bad habits later.

BIO

I have been teaching adults since 2001, and kids since January 2011.

I have always loved music. I began playing piano at age 6, classical silver flute at 9, and singing in school choir at 9. I continued to play piano, flute and sing throughout high school and into college. I graduated U of MT in 1995. In 1998, I travelled to South America and purchased a Kena, my first indigenous flute. I loved experimenting with this new flute and decided I would teach myself to play spontaneously, 'from the heart', as I had only learned to read and play written music. Upon returning to the U.S., I purchased my first Native American flute while living in Jackson, Wyoming. This began a love-affair with this beautiful, sacred instrument. I have continued to play, perform, record and collect Native flutes, including the Indian Bansuri transverse flute, for over 13 years. I have played a variety of events: weddings, Native ceremonies, a concert with Krishna Das in Boulder, Colorado, poetic book readings with Dolores LaChapelle, and background meditation music for Diane Zumer's "Creating Heaven on Earth" CD. I plan to record both a child's and adult's music and meditation CD.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY
I do not use written music and instead teach students to play 'from their heart'. Students do learn about music style, terminology and techniques.


LESSON COST

   *Child's private lessons, ages 6-17:
     30-minute child lesson: $22
     45-minutes child lesson: $35  
     20-minute child lesson (typically for for 6-10 yr olds having weekly lessons): $17

    *Adult private lessons, age 18 - up

     60 minute adult lesson for $45. We cover a great deal in an hour and a few lessons will get you going.
    
     For regular students, I can offer 45 min adult private for $35


LESSON TIMES
Below are lesson times in the Smiley yoga studios where I teach.  These times are based on 30-min. lessons, however I can arrange 45-min lessons (for ages 9 and up) or 1 hr lessons (for adults). 

ADULT LESSON TIMES can be scheduled during the hours of 915 - 2pm Monday through Thursday. 

CHILDREN'S LESSONS DURING SCHOOL YEAR 2011/2012:  Tuesdays & Wednesday 255-325; 330-400pm.  All lesson times are currently FULL, please contact Erika to be added to a wait list.
