No. The main focus of the classes is "Energy & Emotional Awareness". Yoga is one
of the many tools we learn, including yoga asanas (poses), pranayama (breath work), and
meditation. Each class is different and involves a variety of activities - please see "Sample
Class" under each age group (CLASSES). Some classes involve many yoga poses, some
very few. The focus of the yoga asanas is to notice our energy during the pose, and to
notice how the poses make us feel after we do them.
2. Can my child come as a 'drop-in' to check out the class and see if he/she likes it before
signing up for a Session? Also, can my child bring a friend on occasion?
Yes, if space is available. Please call ahead.
3. Are younger ages allowed in the classes?
Yes, kids age 5.5 are occasionally allowed in certain classes, depending on the child's ability
to focus and participate, in addition to the current age group in the session. Siblings often work well
together. Please contact me with inquiries.
4. Are these classes for both boys and girls?
Yes. So far, I have had more boys than girls in the program!
5. What if my child is not interested in checking out a class?
A LOT of the kids (mostly boys) are in resistance to going to a 'yoga class'. I often tell
the parents, "if you can get them to agree to check out one class, they can decide if they like it
or not." I highly recommend parent's give kid's the permission to decide if they want to continue.
I have had a very small amount of kids decide they don't like it. Often, the kids that are convinced
they are going to hate it end up loving it the most! If, however, your child decides they don't like it,
it is best to wait until they are ready. If they are feeling forced to go, they will be in resistance to
learning and will not be open to all that this program offers.
6. Why did you create these classes for kids?
I created this program because I love working with kids and am passionate about offering
them tools to support their sensitivity, and helping them to create a joyful, inspiring, and
fulfilling life. Learning these tools at a young age allows them to develop healthy patterns
from the beginning, instead of trying to undo destructive patterns (self-judgement, self-criticism,
negative thinking, drugs, alcohol, etc) after years of practice .
Teaching kids to ‘go within’ to make decisions may be the most powerful practice I can share.
This will be their guidance system for the rest of their life, if they choose to follow it.
Kids can naturally see, feel and respond to energy. This also makes an 'energy class' perfect
for kids.
7. Why is a class setting so important to learn these tools?
The classes offer a support system for kids to share their experiences, experiment with the
tools they learn, and ask questions. Having peer support is incredibly important, especially in
the middle & high-school years. We discuss any subject that comes up: what to do when someone
says something mean to you, what to do when being bullied, how to deal with peer pressure, how
to get along with siblings, how to feel good about yourself, how to deal with anxiety, stress, etc.
One of the parents coined the class "holistic therapeutic communication" as it is often like a group
therapy/healing class. Having a safe, non-competitive, nurturing environment to discuss very
important emotional subjects is a healthy experience for everyone.
8. Do these classes follow any particular belief system?
No. The tools we learn in this class are applicable to most belief systems. This class is not
about introducing another set of beliefs. The foundation of this class is "to go inside your heart
and determine what is true for you." I simply share many tools that have helped me with my
sensitivity; the kids get to decide whether they work for them and want to use them. I incorporate
a variety of tools from many sources - yoga philosophy, Buddhism, Byron Katie, Eckhart Tolle,
Abraham, Steve Chandler, the chakra system, and much more.
